IDI is a contemporary development institute focusing on middle income developing countries or ‘emerging economies’. It was launched in 2013. IDI offers teaching programs at undergraduate and graduate level. The institute is currently directed by Peter Kingstone and Andy Sumner. IDI's regional expertise centers around Latin America, East Asia and Southeast Asia. King’s College London is ranked as top 10 in the UK and top 30 in the world for international development studies by QS World University Ranking.
